Solar Cookers
Solar Cooker is a box type device absorbing the radiant thermal heat of the Sun. The device cooks the food without any Conventional fossil fuels. Is a kind of ideal clean green energy for people. They have been presented as an interesting solution to the world’s problem of dwindling fuel wood sources and other environmental problems associated with wood fuel demand for cooking.
Solar cookers can be used in any climate. However, cooking in northern regions during the winter when the days are shorter may limit you to cooking foods that require shorter cooking times. In general, it is a nice idea during the summer only, as they’re useless in winter when it gets dark by the time most people come home to cook a meal. But currently with properly designed solar cookers, it is possible to cook day time meals for a family of 5 for about 250 days in a year.
Solar cookers are great because they save money and energy, and produce no pollution. People don’t have to cut down trees for firewood, and they make no nasty smoke to hurt people’s lungs, things that are big problems in countries that don’t have as much money as we do. They are definitely not a technology reserved for the poverty-stricken, however. The technology is very convenient, and it is incredibly cost effective both for the first and the third world.
Solar cookers are surprisingly good at cooking certain things, but overall they’re unreliable. They won’t replace our indoor ovens or our charcoal grills anytime soon. For millions of people living in arid, fuel-scarce regions of the world, solar cookers can literally save lives. Solar cooking technology has been introduced to most developing countries, although programs have been slow to develop due to lack of funding combined with social and political factors. They are well subsidized by China having manufactured an estimated 560,000 devices, India has an estimated 400,000 ones.
Solar cookers are also sometimes used in outdoor cooking , especially in situations where minimal fuel consumption or fire risk are considered highly important. Solar cookers are pollution-free, and, when used in large numbers, may help curb global warming; kitchens remain cool while food solar cooks outdoors. This reduces the load on air conditioners and refrigerators in summer months, saving fossil fuels (and lowering utility bills).
